Explore the garden and learn how to create effective video of small subjects. Plus, learn how to change focus without shaking the camera, how to light subjects, and how to make and edit interesting video content. Take what you learn in the classroom and practice macro videography in the beautiful gardens and woodlands of Pittsburgh Botanic Garden and beyond.
About Macro Videography
Macro videography is videography that captures small subjects at life size. In other words, it allows the often unseen or too small to notice to become subjects of interest. Thereby allowing us to wonder and explore these subjects we’d otherwise ignore. Macro videography can be done with any camera, including phones, as long as they have a macro lens or accessories that allow them to focus very close to their subject. Read this article to find out how to capture macro subjects without a macro lens. Additionally, read this article about capturing macro subjects on your phone.
About the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden
The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring love for plants, garden design, and the natural world. Their massive outdoor gardens are located west of downtown Pittsburgh near Settlers Cabin Park. In addition to this and many other photography classes they offer a wide range of programs. As such, I highly recommend that you take a look at their calendar. Plus, I strongly encourage you to become a member and to support their mission.
About me, Pittsburgh photographer Don Orkoskey
I’m Pittsburgh photographer Don Orkoskey. I own WDO Photography and teach photography classes and private photography lessons in Pittsburgh and online. In addition, I’m a commercial photographer offering advertising and marketing photography, headshots, event photography, and more. When I’m not working as a photographer or teaching photography I’m often in the woods taking nature and wildlife photos. In addition to these past-times I love traveling with my wife, watching films, and playing football (soccer).
