When signing up for an intro to photography class there are certain things you should expect to learn. In this article we'll go over what those are. Then, before you enroll in a class be sure to check with the school or instructor to ensure that you'll learn these things.
Intro To Photography Basics
In every intro to photography class you should learn the basic functions of your camera. These include the following.
White Balance
White balance is a setting in your camera that controls color casts. Different light sources produce different colors of light. As a result, you need to understand how to control for these colors.
Exposure Settings
Your exposure settings help you adjust the brightness of your photos. In addition you can control motion, the depth of your focus, and the amount of noise in your photos with these settings. These settings are; shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Make sure the teacher you're taking class from explains these settings.
Focus Settings
Your camera has several focus settings you need to know. First, there's focus area. Focus area is the location and size of the area you're trying to find focus. Second is your focus mode. Your focus mode determines if your camera keeps focusing while you're taking each photo.
Composition
The above settings are the technical foundation of photography. However, photography is about more than technical knowledge. In fact, half of what you need to learn in photography is how to compose your photos.
Composition is the placement of your subject in the scene. Your composition tells a story. So, if you want that story to be clear then you need to understand composition.
