Abstract Nature Photography Workshop Join me at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden on July 23rd for my celebrated Abstract Nature Photography Workshop! Make magical photos in a beautiful garden setting. I’m, Pittsburgh nature photographer and photography teacher, Don Orkoskey. Don’t miss this incredibly fun experimental abstract nature photography workshop! Come use your camera like never before. If you’re feeling limited or like you’re playing it safe with your photography, then this workshop will set you free. On the other hand, maybe you’re interested in photography – or nature photography specifically – but aren’t sure where to start. In either case, this workshop will break the mold and provide a unique foundation for innovative nature photography. All experience levels are welcome. For this class, you need to bring a camera (you too, phone photographers), and are encouraged to bring any filters you may have – especially special effect filters (prism, Black mist, etc.), small mirrors or other ‘obstructions’ which can be used to add to the image. Backyard Bird Photography Workshop
Join me on June 18th at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden for my Backyard Bird Photography Workshop. Have you ever wanted to capture the beauty of the birds in your own backyard? Then join me, professional photographer, Don Orkoskey, for an introduction to bird photography. This workshop will focus on how to create or find areas that attract bird. Plus, how to set up a blind or otherwise disguise oneself so that birds feel comfortable coming close. Additionally, we’ll discuss lens choices and exposure settings for bird photography. Finally, we’ll discuss what NOT to do (i.e. teach birds to eat out of your hand). If you’re a birder, are interested in birding, or enjoy bird photography you’ll want to sign up today! Classroom discussion will be followed by photographing the many attractive birds found at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. Please bring a camera with a telephoto lens (200mm or longer), a tripod or monopod, a small notebook or larger hardbound notebook and writing utensil. This two day workshop will include an easy to follow information session on Saturday May 25th followed by an outdoor, hands-on, landscape photography session at one of the Pittsburgh area’s best landscape locations on Sunday the 26th. Participants are also invited to join a private online group via Google Classroom which will feature downloadable of all learning materials and the opportunity to share their photos with other students. ATTENTION!!! Due to the Great Race the location has been changed to the lower Frick Park Parking Lot. Directions: take S. Braddock Ave to Regent Square and turn at the red light on Hutchinson, (turn away from/opposite the GetGo on Hutchinson). At Lancaster Ave turn right onto Frick Ln and drive down to the parking lot. If you need an address to put into GPS use 1045 Lancaster Ave. as the parking lot doesn’t have an address. 1045 is the house on the corner. When you’ve arrived that house will be on your right, turn onto Frick Ln (unmarked, but there is a wooden sign saying Frick Park opposite 1045 Lancaster) and follow that road down to the parking lot. July Nature Photography Meetup Don’t miss this month’s nature photography meetup in Frick Park near the Frick Environmental Center with professional photographer Don Orkoskey of WDO Photography. This free, family friendly event, includes opportunities to see and photograph all types of wildlife from birds to butterflies and macro photography opportunities including flowers, insects, mushrooms and more. Everyone is welcome! Meet Don near the fountain by the Frick Environmental Center and find out about the incredible nature photography opportunities we have right here in Pittsburgh. All are welcome including families with kids, retirees, phone photographers, absolute beginner photographers, birders, fellow professional photographers, and everyone else. The meetup will last approx. 2 hours but we won’t venture too far from the starting point so you can easily leave at any time. Showing up on time is encouraged so that we can start on time and you’re able to find us. Depending on what everyone wants to photograph we may venture onto trails which could be steep or narrow.
