You Need To See These Beautiful Abstract Nature Photos

Abstract Nature Photos

You need to see these beautiful abstract nature photos which I created at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden in July while teaching a class on the subject. I absolutely love how these came out and I know you will too!

Abstract Nature Photos

I've had a hard time editing down these abstract nature photos. This is because I have dozens that worked out well. In fact, rather than culling more photos, I'm instead categorizing them. As a result you can view the groups, then decide which ones you prefer the best. Actually, I would really like to know which were your favorites. As such, please comment below or contact me to let me know!

Dizzying Landscape Photos

Dizzying Landscape Photos

The above photo is one of a series I created during the class. In it you to feel familiarity and a sense of being grounded. However, this and the others in the series, also make you feel like you're in a dizzying state, spinning around. In fact, I think I love these photos so much because they remind me of childhood. See the whole set here.

A Reminder of Childhood

If you're anything like me then you probably spun yourself around until you were dizzy as a kid. The feeling of the world spinning after you stopped is how I feel looking at this and the other photos in the series. Of course, there are other times in our lives when we might feel like this. However, I hope few of us have experienced the level of drunkenness required for such a spin this early in the day. But, to each their own.

My Own Little Cloud

Clouds - Abstract Nature Photography Of course this little cloud-shaped subject isn't actually a cloud. However, it certainly feels like one. In fact, it takes on more of that feel in some of the other photos in this series. See the full series here.

Whereas in this photo you can see the stem of this Queen Annes Lace flower, in some of the others it's not visible at all.

One thing that I truly enjoy about this and the abstract photos in this series is how they allow us to interpret objects in nature differently. By stripping away the facade of accepted reality we allow ourselves to imagine.

Cloud Photos

I had a student recently who told me how they love to photograph clouds. Then they show them to people in an assisted living facility that they volunteer in. In reaction to them telling me this it got me thinking. When was the last time I laid in the grass just looking at clouds. Of course, if you've got kids you might have done this recently. However, if you don't or your kids are grown, then you've probably not done so in a long while.

A Sense of Place

Sense of Place

These photos have a sense of place that feels familiar. However, they don't feel natural due to their abstract nature. They have echoes of other art movements in them. For example, Pointillism, and Impressionism. Yet, they are photos. Therefore, they don't quite fit into these painting style.

Additionally, they evoke their feelings of being apart from them in distinctly harsher ways. At least, in my opinion. Let me know if you disagree. See the full set here.

Other Abstract Photos of Nature

abstract photos which escape categorization

The above categories were easy to see. However, many of the photos I created in my abstract nature photography class are not. In fact, I couldn't find a clever way to label them. Therefore I've listed them as uncategorizable abstract nature photos. See the full set here.

That said, there are swirly ones and so forth that I could have drawn out of the mix. However, I really think they play well together. Therefore I want to showcase them as a group.

Ultimately, I think these would make incredible prints. Genuinely, I can see these each as being great additions to great interior designs. In fact, I think many of them could be the center piece. So, if you're an interior designer or know one, please let me know what you think or pass along the link to your interior design friends!
