The Most Amazing Online Photography Class For Teens

Join me, pro photographer Don Orkoskey on Dec. 29th at 2pm EST (11 PST) for this fun and informative online photography class for teens (or anyone ages 10 to 18). This class will run last for approx. 2 hours but may run a little longer depending on the amount of questions participants just like you ask (and your questions are very much welcome).

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Here is what you'll learn in this photography class:

• How to control the brightness (exposure) in your photos
• Ways to use focus and light to direct people's attention where you want them to look
• The rules of design and composition (and when to break these rules)
• How to use color, light, perspective, and motion in your photos for greater creativity
• The best ways to pose yourself or others for amazing selfies and portraits

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO PARTICIPATE

Students looking to participate need a camera or smartphone. All the materials we will discuss can be done on a phone but we will touch on more advanced cameras such as DSLRs, mirrorless, and even film cameras.

Accompanying Photography Book

Beyond that students (or their parents) can download an accompanying photography e-book that covers everything we've discussed in the class. Students are encouraged to take notes. I will not be recording the class due to the age of the students. Therefore note taking is highly recommended. The e-book is full of great info but the discussion will certainly include more great info you'll want to write down.

WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR

This class is for teens and preteens. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 18 can take this class. Parents are allowed to be present during the class but we ask that you just observe rather than participate. If your child is under 10 but really love photography please contact me to see if they can participate. Those older than 18 looking to take a beginner's photography class are asked not to participate in the class. Exceptions may be made in the case of those over 18 with a documented developmental disability. Please contact me if your over 18 student might qualify to join this class.

MORE ABOUT THE CLASS

This is a virtual teen photography class for ages 10 to 18. It will be hosted on Zoom and students will be encouraged to ask questions (if they are comfortable doing so). Given the wide age range of the class all students are expected to be respectful of each other. This class is for everyone between the ages of 10 and 18, that means all genders, races, ethnicities, etc. You will need to be respectful of everyone else who is attending. Students who are disrespectful will be muted and may be removed from the class.

Should you/your student be removed no refund will be provided. However, if a student is removed their parent/legal guardian is asked to contact me to discuss their conduct and possible learning options for the future (possible). As a neurodivergent person I understand that disruption may not always be entirely the fault of the student. Therefore I want to make every effort to help all students who have signed up to learn photography even if they're unable during this class time for any reason.

Cancellations And Refunds

Students who have signed up but are unable to attend this class or their parents should contact me no later than 7 days before the class is scheduled if they need to cancel. Any student who has not cancelled prior to 2 pm EST on Dec. 22nd will not be eligible for a refund. This class will be restricted to no more than 25 students so cancellation must happen with enough time to allow any students on the waiting list time to enroll.

Fun And Educational

This class will be a lot of fun. It will also cover a lot of material. Warning: you may learn a bit of math, I promise it will be interesting. In fact, if I knew that I would be using math to do fun stuff like take photos I would have liked it a whole lot more. We'll also incorporate some science, and other STEM stuff as well as artistic and creative stuff. In other words - it's education (if that helps sell your parents/caregivers on the idea) but it's also a lot of fun (if that helps sell you/your teen on the idea).
