Beyond the runway: DeKalb County residents brought style and community spirit to Constitution Lakes during the Forest Fashion Show.
DeKalb County Parks Beyond The Runway at The Forest Fashion Show & Festival
One of Atlanta's best attributes is the abundant natural resources available to the public via so many incredible local parks. Constitution Lakes is one of the best examples of this. Of course, another critical component making Atlanta amazing is the people who live here.
On Sept 26th I had the pleasure to be part of The Forest Fashion Show and Festival. The Forest Fashion Show and Festival was created and directed by Naturalist Tasha, a naturalist at DeKalb County's Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs. She hosts programs in the many amazing parks in South DeKalb County. Of course that includes Constitution Lakes but also Gresham Park, Glen Emerald Park, and more.
Naturalist Tasha leads regular programming through her Field Notes in Focus and other incredible programming. I've had the honor of working with Tasha at a few of these programs. They're a lot of fun, full of learning opportunities, and they genuinely create community.
Forest Fashion Show at Constitution Lakes
The Forest Fashion Show at Constitution Lakes was a smash hit! Despite occurring on the first Saturday in months to not be unbearably hot and competing with the grand reopening of Intrenchment Creek. Intrenchment Creek is another South DeKalb County Park. Additionally there were many other events happening on Saturday. Still, Constitution Lakes was packed with festival attendees.
Eco-Editorial Portraits
As I was teaching a photography class that morning for the Atlanta School of Photography in Sandy Springs I wasn't able to fully participate. As a result, I missed the runway walk. However, I did manage to set up on the boardwalk and capture photos of attendees and park visitors.
These editorial portraits in the park not only feature festival attendees but also park visitors who simply love Constitution Lakes. As a result, many of the fashionable folks you see in these portraits are showing off their natural looks and sense of fashion.
DeKalb County Parks: Meet The Best People
One thing I find true, not only of this event, is that I meet the best people in DeKalb County Parks. Of course, Naturalist Tasha is an absolute treasure! Of course, I've become friends with people who've also attend her events. However, even outside of park events, I meet the most interesting and friendliest people every time I visit a park in DeKalb County.
I wish I would have taken the time to collect more information on everyone who posed for a portrait. That said, if you're featured here, please drop a comment or contact me to tell me what you love about Constitution Lakes and the other amazing DeKalb County Parks!
