Women's History Month Headshot Discount

To call attention to the persistent gender pay gap, I am once again offering you my headshot discount to honor Women's History Month in 2023. The last few years have been extremely difficult for everyone but much of the burden has fallen on women.

Though there was some rebound in employment levels in 2022 it doesn't make up for the unfair, often life-altering, layoffs experienced by so many women in 2021. Last March I decided to do something to try to make some difference, no matter how small. Given that the pay gap still exists in 2023 I decided to reintroduce this headshot discount once again.

Your Headshot Discount

If you identify as a woman, feme, or non-binary I'm offer you a 25% headshot discount. Additionally I will donate another 25% to your choice of charities working to end gender inequality. That's it. I wish there was more that I could do professionally. While I do more personally this discount on headshots seemed like the most direct thing I could do professionally.

Discount Details

Here are the fine print discount details. This discount runs from March 1st to 31st. You don't need to have your photos taken within the month of March but they must be booked before March 31st.

You can call, text, or email me to book a session. At the time of booking you don't have to schedule an exact date but you will have to place a deposit. Your headshot session can take place any time over the next 6 months.

Women's History Month

The history of Women's History Month traces it's roots to International Women's Day. March 8th began to be recognized as International Woman's Day in 1911. The recognition of the vital role women play in society grew out of the workers/labor movement and the Woman's suffrage movement.

The Soviet Union came to champion International Woman's Day. As a result workers in United States and other Western countries began to distance themselves from the celebration during the Red Scare. Women's History Month was finally devised as a way to honor the contributions of Women throughout history in the West. It took decades for March to be as widely recognized as it is today.

Much of the recognition of Women's History Month would not be possible if it were not for the work of Black/African Americans to push for greater recognition of Black History Month.

The Need For Headshots

There is an ever increasing need for headshots in the professional world. From LinkedIn profiles to professional trade organizations headshots are now a requirement. Given the persistence of the gender pay gap this is one more area in which women are routinely penalized.

The cost of professional portraits are often paid by the individual, often before they even find a job. Additionally, the need of a business to see a headshot opens candidates up to discrimination.

There is little I can do as a photographer to change this. What I can do is offer all women, femes, and non-binary people a great looking headshot and, for the entire month of March, to do so at a discount that will also benefit those working to create a more just world.
