Our Committment To Sustainability
Committed to Sustainability
WDO Photography is committed to sustainability. As such, we make every effort to reduce our impact on the environment in our business practices.
Sustainability in Equipment
At WDO Photography we use rechargeable batteries in our cameras and lights where possible. Additionally, our equipment is replaced only when necessary. Plus, we buy used and refurbished equipment whenever possible.
To be clear, this doesn't impact the quality of our work. In fact, in the last 5 to 7 years the advancement in digital cameras has slowed dramatically. This is also why we encourage students to buy used or refurbished gear.
Sustainability in Travel
At WDO Photography we choose to travel as sustainably as possible. We also choose not to travel as much as we can. Instead, we opt for phone calls and online meetings over Zoom and similar video conferencing tools.
Additionally, our owner and staff drive efficient vehicles, car pool, or take public transit when feasible.
In fact, our owner Don Orkoskey travels via bike to any event he's able to. Of course, doing so was easier in Pittsburgh. Temperatures and humidity are generally lower there. That said, even in Atlanta Don will travel by bike whenever possible.
Sustainability in Leadership
Owner and operator Don Orkoskey is a certified permaculturist. As such he isn't just dedicated to sustainably but also to regenerative processes. That might seem like a challenge. However, Don and his team reuse and repurpose as much as possible and live as sustainably as they can.
So, if equipment becomes unusable for professional work it's either donated or used to help up-and-coming photographers and those interested in learning photography. Don teaches photography classes. As part of these classes Don instills a love and respect for nature in his students.
Respect For Our Planet
WDO Photography's commitment to sustainability is grounded in a respect for our planet. That respect comes from Don and his entire team. We know commitment to sustainability and respect for nature starts with experience.
This is one reason Don hosts free nature photography meetups regularly.
Monthly Nature Photography Meetups
Don's monthly nature photography meetups are free. Plus, these meetups give photographers and those interested in photography the opportunity to explore and observe nature. In addition, they learn and practice photography.
Don knows that these experiences grow people's attachment to and appreciation of the nature world. As a result people are more motivated to protect their environment.
