Class Schedule
This is a 4 week class scheduled on Sunday evenings between 6 and 8pm. The class starts on Sunday June 25th and runs through July 16th.
Week 1 June 25th
Week 1 will focus on the technical side of macro photography. As a result we'll learn how to use our cameras and lenses. Too, we'll spend time in the field identifying subjects. Additionally, we'll learn not only how to find macro subjects but how to create properly exposed and focused photos.
Week 2 July 2nd
The focus of Week 2 is the art of macro photography. Because we learned how to take technically good photos in week 1 we can turn our attention to making beautiful photos with what we'll learn in week 2.
Week 3 July 9th
In week 3 we'll learn how to see light and think like a photographer. It's not enough to find a subject and make a correct and well composed photo. We also need to understand light and how to use it. We'll discuss natural light and how to add light to your photos in many different ways.
Week 4 July 16th
Our final class, week 4, will be a wrap up and discussion of editing and post production techniques. We'll discuss how to use tools like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
Is this Class for me?
Do you love nature and want to learn how to photograph small details? Then this class is for you. You don't have to have any prior classes or experience. This class is great for beginners, brand new to any type of photography as well as those who know what they're doing but want to learn new skills in the area of macro photography.
FAQ
I only have a phone is that okay? Absolutely, while there is more that you can do with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, you can still do a lot with just your phone.
Do I need a macro lens or other specialized gear? Nope, you can create macro photos without a macro lens but you will need one or more pieces of equipment. Thankfully, there are really affordable tools out there. Contact me if you've got any questions on what to buy.
Is this an all ages class? Yes, all ages are welcome, minors will need a parent to take the class with them, contact me about pricing for these situations.
I'll need to miss one of the classes is that going to be problem? Ideally you'll want to attend all of the classes. However, if you know that you're going to miss a class please let me know. We'll be using Google Classroom to share our work. Additionally, I'll be posting materials there every week that feature information we've gone over in class.
What You'll Need For This Class
This class does require you to have a camera (phone photographers welcome). You will want to come to class each week with a notepad and pen or pencil. Additionally you may want to bring a tripod (not required), and a garden pad for kneeling is often helpful. Again, these are not required. That said, they make it easier to take macro photos.
