It's not just about when you're getting your picture taken. It's also about where . . .
Some points to ponder
When I come to you, or you come to me for a portrait it becomes about more than just what day and time your appointment is scheduled for. It is also about where. I love to come to my clients home to do their portrait for several reasons.
- Home is where your base is - you're comfort zone
- You don't have the hassle of trying to find my studio or worrying that your going to be late
- It gives my clients an excuse to not just show off themselves but to show off their home
- It also gives my clients an excuse to do some serious house cleaning!
Let's face it - most of us are really busy so that last point will hit home with many of you. If you worry that you won't have time to clean up then maybe we should aim for my studio or even for an on location shot at a park, playground, or other outdoor location that your family enjoys visiting. Some of the most fun family portraits I do are shot in the home but if that would lead to more anxiety than relaxation then we can take the show on the road.
Here are a few things to consider before we plan a shoot in your home.
- Make sure you have time to tidy up - the last thing you want in your pictures is a messy house or to pay me for my maid services
- Make sure you have enough room - I can shoot with a wide angle lens and am ALWAYS willing to consult with you before the shoot as to if there is room enough and an appropriate place to stage the photos but don't expect photos taken in a 10x8 foot room to come out looking "traditional"
- If we shoot indoors I will bring lighting that requires AC power - please be sure to have outlets that won't be overloaded or which have items that may be unplugged (excluding Grandma's oxygen)
- If you have any questions or concerns please, please, please contact me before the day of the shoot so that we can work them out - don't cut into the short time that we have for the shoot
Fresh Air

With the exception of the typical Western PA winter months; the great outdoors are often the best time and place to have pictures taken. From the Pittsburgh Zoo to Mt. Washington to any of the AMAZING parks and wooded areas we have in and around the city there is almost no reason to stay inside for photos.
I can shoot at many locations though there are a few things to consider when choosing an outdoor location as well.
- Playgrounds all have positives and negatives - can we get the kids attention long enough to get the shots and will they still look happy if we draw them away from the swings
- Pittsburgh weather - rain delays can hamper a perfectly good shoot or they can make for some really unique and amazing non-traditional portraits
- If you want to shoot in public often times you must deal with the public and the distractions that come with them - frisbees, cars, nebby old ladies are often all part of the adventure
- The outdoors is bigger than you think - Point State Park makes for a great setting and sometimes skyscrappers make the perfect stand-ins for trees
Why not call today so we can discuss not just when but also where we are scheduling your photos.
