Blog Roll
(Pittsburgh - by W. Donald Orkoskey) The following is a list of blogs that I read. As time goes by I'll be adding some suggested reading from the rest of the staff at WDO Photography.
Many wonderful people - a number of them talented photographers - seem to have time to share an amazing amount of knowledge on the web these days - or at the very least they are willing to use the little time that they do have to share their knowledge and expertise. They blog about everything from the latest greatest cameras to unconventional ways to make better photos. I read a lot of these blogs when I have time and I thought I'd share those that we read with you our intrepid website explorer along with a short bit of info about why we read them.
After the jump you'll find all the goodies
Photography Related Blogs
Strobist (website)
Don tells everyone how much he loves Strobist and he reads it because the revolution in photography these days is lead by the innovative minds and eyes of people like David the author of the Strobist blog and the creator of a phenomenal new direction in commercial and journalistic photography. The topic that Strobist most often covers is "off camera flash" but taking the flash out of the hotshoe is only the beginning of what this blog has to offer and that is only the first step. The end result is teaching journalistic photographers to embrace more cinematic or more motivated forms of lighting.
DIY Photography (website)
Photography is an expensive business, and an even more expensive hobby. Still it is a calling or hobby that many people find loads of joy being involved with, (myself included). DIY (or Do It Yourself) is a buzz phrase these days and photography is not untouched by these trends. The folks at DIY have all kinds of advise and tutorials for how to improvise tools that can make your photography better.
Digital Photography School (website)
You're never too old to learn and in an ever evolving industry like photography we often check out the tips and tricks at DPS.
Pittsburgh Based Blogs
Blogadeus (website)
David English, one of the most creative minds of our times lives in Pittsburgh and is seeking to find his place and his purpose. During his journey he writes about his experiences and every so often adds some illuminated and enlightened story that will make you smile or maybe scream.
I Heart PGH (website)
If you are looking for information that is as good as or better than the local arts and entertainment rags check out I heart PGH. They provide a great deal of information about what is happening and when. They provide coverage of items that otherwise slip past the gatekeepers. As photographers we like to keep an eye on interesting information and events that we might be of use to.
Pop City (website)
The Pittsburgh area is in a state of flux and like I Heart PGH Pop City helps get the word out about some great new things that are happening in the Pittsburgh area. Mainly the focus seems to be on the people that are helping to remake Pittsburgh into a world-class city but they also write a great deal about development and redevelopment.
